自我介紹實際上是一種自我推銷，它給別人留下的是第一印象。一般來說，自我介紹時要注意以不幾點：
1.平和自信。初次交往，都想互相多了解對方，又都想被對方所了解。自我介紹時就要大大方方、不卑不亢，切不可羞答忸怩、吞吞吐吐、左顧右盼。應該勇于向他人展示自己，樹立自信，讓別人產生希望與你交往的愿望。稍加自己的個性，來一個個性自我介紹，吸引別人的眼光。
2.繁簡得當。應視交際的需要來決定介紹的繁簡。一般說來，參加聚會、演講、為他人為事、偶爾碰面、為單位公關等，自我介紹宜簡約些，只要介紹姓名和工作單位即可；而在另一些場合，如：求職、戀愛、找人辦事、招標時投標、深交朋友等，則可以介紹的細致一點。
3.把握分寸。介紹自己要有自謙和自識，自我介紹少不了介紹“我”，但要把握好分寸。有的人自我介紹時，左一個“我”，右一個“我”如何如何，叫人聽了反感；有人把“我”的形象樹立的很高大；更有甚者，一提到“我”時便洋洋得意，這樣的自我介紹都不會給對方留不良好的印象。掌握分寸，關鍵要以平和的語氣說出“我”，要目光親切、神態自然，這樣才能使人從這個“我”字上感受到你自信、自立而又自謙的美好形象。切不可自吹自擂，一般不用“很”、“最”、“第一”一類的字眼，這樣才能使對方對你產生信任感。
4.巧言介紹。加深印象是自我介紹的目的。自我介紹首先要介紹自己的名字，并對“姓”和“名”加以解釋，你解釋得越巧妙，別人對你的印象就越深。這可以反映一個人的知識水平和性格修養，也可以體現一個人的口才。一個人的姓名，往往有豐富的文化積淀，或折射出凝重的史實，或反映時代的樂章，或寄寓雙親對子女的殷切厚望。因之，巧解姓名有時也令人動情，加深印象。特別對于面試的自我介紹，更需要甜言蜜語。
